The Remembering

I am in the remembering

Memorializing, honoring, celebrating who I once was.

The people pleaser:

Guilty of nothing but striving to embody God’s supreme provision for others

Because I egoistically thought He was too tired.

The over-apologizer:

Self-projecting the distorted weight of societal misalignment

While feebly, chronically trying to assuage its existence.

The eldest daughter:

With a stoic, smiling countenance,

Masking an anxiety only seen in Oz

Pay no attention to the panicked girl behind the curtain.

All those versions served to carry me forward,

Under the weight of wings not yet fully emerged.

They set flight like rocket boosters,

Clinging on for dear life

Until exploded, spent, and deep sea-bound.

Oh, how I thank you,

How I release you,

How I love you.

Thank you for your service.

Your energy is relieved of duty.

Go bask in leisure,

Gloriously healed

You have earned your retirement.
