New Year’s Resolution

There is a tender leaf shoot

Poking its head above ground

Sparkling with winter frost

It’s green newness a contrast to the brown grass

“It’s too early,” I said.

“It’s January,” I said.

But the brave little vegetation stood shy and resolute glistening in its ice crystal coat

“Well, I guess we are doing a new thing then.”
